About Us

The Royal Columbian Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop was established in 1902, a registered charity/non-profit in British Columbia, Canada. The shop was started and is run almost entirely by wonderful, selfless volunteers.

Whether you are looking for a new outfit, a unique vintage find, or a great bargain, there’s something for everyone at our Thrift Shop! Our RCH Auxiliary Thrift Shop provides quality thrift items at reasonable prices and strives to be a caring, friendly presence in our community.

By shopping with us, you are supporting our mandate; To support RCH with donations of goods and services to provide patient comfort. We also support patients and staff with the proceeds of our fundraising venues which are used to purchase equipment for the Royal Columbian Hospital.

We have two branches of the Auxiliary.

Our Patient Care branch provides goods and services at no cost to patients and their families. It includes a clothing cupboard for patients who need clothing upon discharge, renal belts, heart pillows and monitor bags for heart surgery patients , baby quilts, baby hats, chemotherapy hats and bags, personal care items, comfort items for children in ER and more as follows.

Critical & ambulatory care families are provided friendship, tea/coffee and comfort, while in liaison with the hospital staff and families of surgical patients, as well as patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Our volunteers also do knitting, crocheting and sewing items such as baby blankets, lap blankets, quilts, dish clothes, slippers, baby sweater sets, children’s sweaters, toques and many other knit or sewn items that donors bring to sell in Gift Shop.  In addition, they provide special items designed for NICU.

Our ‘Craft’ group makes gift items to sell in our Gift Shop, as well as Christmas favors for patients. One of our favorite Gift Shop specials are baby cakes made from diapers and baby items (comes in 3 sizes) – excellent gift for new babies and excellent for baby showers.

We have five Fundraising venues:

  1.   A gift shop located inside RCH.
  2.   A lotto booth located inside RCH.
  3.   A used book cart located inside RCH.
  4.   A thrift store located offsite on E Columbia Street in Sapperton.
  5.   We apply for a BC Lottery Community Grant annually and abide by their regulations for use.
